Parents FAQs

What are Roc’s Term Dates?

You can find all of ROC’s term dates on our Term Dates page.

What should I do if my young person is absent from college?

Please see our Attendance Policy for Parents and Carers.

How do I apply to ROC?

To apply for a place at Rotherham Opportunities College, speak to your EHCP co‑ordinator to let them know you are interested in joining ROC. They will then send us a consultation, and our Admissions Team will contact you shortly afterwards. You can also apply directly by downloading and completing our application form and emailing it to info@theroc.co.uk. If you are unsure, feel free to contact us for more guidance.

What Happens After a Student Applies?

We will contact you to discuss your application. Please note, that although we try and support as many students as possible, our services are in high demand and our places are limited.

Do Students Pay Tuition Fees?

In most cases students’ tuition fees are paid by your local authority, meaning that there is no direct cost to the student or family for tuition fees.

How will my young person travel to ROC?

Travel arrangements to and from college are typically provided by parents and carers, although depending upon the circumstances of the student, some help may be available from the local authority. As students progress through college, where appropriate, we also provide independent travel training, helping students to use public transport confidently and independently.

How will parents be kept informed about their young person’s progress at ROC?

Parents and carers are kept informed through two progress events each year, where students, families and tutors can discuss achievements, development and next steps; the dates for the 2025–26 events are listed in the Student Handbook. Meetings can take place face to face, by telephone or online, depending on what works best for families. In addition to these events, parents and carers also receive a full update on their young person’s progress at their EHCP annual review.
